Targeting the Bacteria Causing Odor
Among the wide variety of bacteria of the cutaneous microbiota, certain species stand out by their ability to produce odorous molecules. This is particularly the case for
Staphylococcus hominis.
To elucidate the mechanism leading to odor generation, SILAB developed an original modeling study. This study demonstrated quantitative (increased abundance) and qualitative modifications (increased enzymatic activity) of
S. hominis strains. This was sampled from the axillary microbiota of malodorous volunteers undergoing physical activity compared to a non-odorous panel.
In response to this problem,
DEOLYA® limits the excessive abundance of
S. hominis in the axillary cutaneous microbiota. This is done by targeting the enzymatic activity of this bacterial species. The active ingredient therefore has a significant effect on the source of perspiration odors. While leaving the microbial diversity of this skin zone unaffected.
DEOLYA® Reduces Perspiration Odor by 58%
Tested in a Caucasian panel of both sexes participating in physical activity, DEOLYA® reduces perspiration odors by 58% from the first application.
This deodorant efficacy is assessed by an olfactory evaluation by a panel of experts qualified in sensory measurement. Confirmed at the molecular level by a significant 76.3% reduction of the malodorous 3M3SH thiol. These effects are observed even after 7 days of daily use and without having applied the deodorant DEOLYA® in the morning before physical activity, underlining the immediate and
long-term effect of the deodorant.
At the same time, DEOLYA® reduces inflammation. Thus significantly reducing the frequency of unpleasant underarm sensations appearance, daily but also after shaving or epilation (after 28 days of use). In addition, the active strengthens the barrier function. It results in an in vivo improvement of the Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) of the underarm skin.
DEOLYA® is therefore a natural deodorant solution that provides comfort and soothing to the axillary zone.
For this development, SILAB Research beneficially used the tellimagrandin-type ellagitannins and proanthocyanidols found in meadowsweet, giving DEOLYA® its unique polyphenolic profile. Obtained from French suppliers certified for organic agriculture and traced back to the harvest site, this raw material complies with SILAB’s criteria for traceability and sustainability.
DEOLYA® is a patented active ingredient recommended in all deodorant care products at a dose of 0.1 to 1.0%. Available in aqueous solution, it is easy to formulate. It complies with biodiversity regulations and has a natural origin content of 99.2% (ISO 16128). It complies with international cosmetics regulations (Europe, USA, China, Japan, etc.).
