Science Based Targets initiative Approves AAK’s Emission Reduction TargetsAAK announces that its emission reduction targets have been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This approval underscores its commitment to aligning with the latest climate science and contributing effectively to global climate action efforts.

Reduce Absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG Emissions 50% by 2030

AAK is one of the first companies to achieve FLAG target approval. By setting targets aligned with a 1.5°C trajectory, AAK is taking a proactive role in addressing its environmental impact. Its commitment is a response to the UN climate science evaluating body, IPCC’s, latest findings, highlighting the urgent necessity for rapid and extensive emissions reductions to meet this critical temperature limit and termed a 'code red for humanity' by the UN (United Nations).

SBTi enables businesses to set emissions reduction goals in accordance with the latest climate science. It aims to guide companies worldwide to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This initiative is a partnership among CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is a key part of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.

SBTi’s independent assessment and approval process adds accountability to its climate action strategies,” says Caroline Westerik-Sikking, Sustainability director at AAK.
