POLYQUATERNIUM-4

Polyquaternium-4 is also known as Hydroxyethyl cellulose dimethyl diallylammonium chloride copolymer; and Diallyldimethylammonium chloride-hydroxyethyl cellulose copolymer. Essentially, it is a conditioning polymer. Conditioners and facial cleaning products both contain it. In addition to being an antistatic, polyquaternium-4 also conditions hair. Additionally, it makes your hair's curls look better.

What is POLYQUATERNIUM-4 used for?

Polyquaternium-4 is a conditioning polymer used in hair conditioners and facial cleansing products.

Hair care: It functions as a hair conditioner, combability aid, and antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralizing the electrical charge on the hair surface). It reduces or prevents the confusion of the hair due to changes or damage to the hair surface and thus improves combability. This is due to the positively charged nature of the Polyquaternium 4 molecules. On the surface of the hair, it creates a coherent film (film former) by adhering to the (negatively charged) hair shaft. This gives the appearance of smoother, easier-to-comb hair. It is used in hair styling products, mousses, texturizers, etc.

Origin

Polyquaternium-4 is obtained by reacting hydroxyethylcellulose and diallyldimethyl ammoniumchloride.

Safety profile

Polyquaternium-4 has a rating of 1 with low chances of producing concerns like cancer, allergies, immunotoxicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, and use restrictions according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG). It is not expected to be potentially toxic or harmful. Polyquaternium-4 can be difficult to remove from the hair even with a sulfated shampoo.

Hair Care: Hair Shampoo by BASF

Hair Shampoo contains: Celquat H-100 which provides aesthetic benefits such as excellent combability, hold, gloss, and anti-static properties, and a smooth feel. Structure® PLUS which is used as an associative thickener. A formulation by BASF.
