Who Remembers Lanolin?

SpecialChem / Nick Morante – Jun 15, 2007

With summer coming upon us very quickly, it is very important to be prepared for that mean nasty effect that UV rays can bring - sunburn. First of all one should, if al all possible, limit outdoor activities between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM in the summer month. Summer can differ depending on which part of the world you happen to be in. Summer in Australia is in December. So heavy outdoor activities such as tennis and golf should be played in the early morning or late afternoon hours. You can always try playing tennis indoors. If you are outdoors, be sure to wear a good pair of polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun. Cloudy days can be very deceiving. Clouds and haze can scatter UV light and you can still get a burn. Some drugs & cosmetics -- Tetracycline, diuretics, tranquilizers, or birth control pills -- may increase susceptibility to sunburn because they contain substances that cause the skin to absorb more of the sun's radiation. Lanolin is obtained from the wool grease of sheep and is a renewable resource.
