Trends in Facial Skincare

SpecialChem / Imogen Matthews – Dec 16, 2013

The global facial skincare market was valued at USD 80.5bn by Euromonitor in 2012 and is expected to reach USD 84.9bn in 2013. Two thirds of sales come from facial moisturizers and anti-agers, while facial cleansers account for just 17% and toners 10% of the total global skincare market. The two key trends in facial skincare are for multifunctional products, such as BB and CC creams, and customized treatments, including serums, masks and oils. Examples of recent customized launches include Filorga’s Skin Perfusion range and L’Oreal Yue Sai’s Customized TCM Beauty Solution Ultimate Refining Serum {RMB 490/20ml} in China. Consumers increasingly want proof that skincare products work and Mintel has seen an increase in anti-ageing product launches claiming to be clinically tested. Product launches offering optical benefits to even skin tone are growing in importance. The latest buzz ingredient in anti-ageing skincare is mannose, used in several L’Oreal brands, including YSL Youth Liberator.
