Natural Ingredients from the Tropical Rainforest

SpecialChem / Nick Morante – Dec 28, 2006

Of the popular ingredients coming into prominence lately, those originating from tropical rainforest seem to be getting most of the press. First, as the name indicates, tropical rainforests are found in the tropics located between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer, between the latitudes of 23.5° N and 23.5° S. Rainforest ingredients are seeing wide usage in all types of cosmetic products from makeup to hair care. They come in various physical forms and have a variety of uses. Of all the ingredients being promoted as coming from the rainforest, the ones coming out of the Amazon region of Brazil are the most popular. One popular ingredient is Babassu Oil (Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil). This comes from the Babassu palm tree found in the Amazonian Rainforest. The name Babassu comes from the Tupis, an Amazonian tribe. The fruit of the Babassu palm forms several clusters that bear approximately 500 fruits that look like small coconuts. Their principal product is a clear stable oil well suited for lipsticks and anhydrous products.
