SpecialChem / Vispi Kanga – Feb 10, 2009

The huge opportunities in the cosmetic, wellness and health sectors no longer go unnoticed by the international manufacturers waiting to take advantage of the enormous Indian consumer market, and Indian manufacturers wanting to keep up with global trends and production. According to ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) the size of India's cosmetics market will rise by almost a half to 1.4 billion dollars in the next two to three years as people get fashion conscious and with increased awakening about cosmetic brands even in rural India. The cosmetic market consists of eye and facial makeup products, talcum powders, lipsticks and nail enamels. The skin care sector is one of the fastest growing segments as Indian consumers have started using specialized skincare products according to their skin type. In the skin care category Hindustan Unilever's Ponds brand has reinstated its leadership by the launch of The Ponds Beauty Council which represents a set of empowered women who are experts in their respective fields of cosmetology, beauty, grooming and fashion.
