Chems Strengthen Cosmetic Presence

SpecialChem / Doris De Guzman – May 11, 2007

MAJOR CHEMICAL companies were in full force as they showcased their new ingredients at the In-Cosmetics conference in Paris in mid-April. From skin care to hair care, ingredient suppliers are rolling out innovative products to add significant functionality. Wacker's newly developed silicone hybrid polymer, Belsil P101, makes it possible for the first time to produce waterbased hairsprays that provides firm hold as well as give hair a natural feel, says Claudius Schwarzwalder, technical marketing manager, personal care at Wacker Silicones. "By combining the chemistries of organic polymer and silicone, we have developed patented hybrid materials that meet market trends and give existing polymer systems a new touch," he says. Dow Corning and Wacker Chemie both noted the growing use of silicones for personal care. Dow Corning launched at the show its new volatile alkyl methyl siloxane fluid, Toray FZ-3196 (Caprylyl Methicone), as a carrier for other ingredients or as a dispersing medium for hydrophobic powders and pigments in a wide range of personal care products.
