Dihydroxyacetone. Dihydroxyacetone extra pure for cosmetic purposes by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt Germany is a sunless self-tanning grade. During the process, DHA is linked to the amino acids on the skin surface. The resulting tan can last for up to two weeks as it fades either naturally by natural exfoliation or mechanically by using a peeling.
