Sustainable Cosmetics Summit to Showcase Innovations in Green Ingredients & PackagingThe Sustainable Cosmetics Summit will showcase innovations in green ingredients, packaging, and marketing. Hosted in Paris on 7-9 November 2022.

The summit will show how sustainability is inspiring new products, formulations, and packaging in the cosmetics industry.

Key Discussions


Key discussions will include:

  • Positive Change by Collaboration: Shaun Russell, chair of the B Corp Beauty Coalition, will open the summit with a keynote on collaborations. He will explain how the coalition aims to have a positive impact on the beauty industry by bringing together the knowledge and resources of its B Corp members. Weleda, The Body Shop, Davines, and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps are notable members of the B Corp Beauty Coalition which now has over 50 members
  • Novel Green Ingredients: Many novel green ingredients are emerging for cosmetic & personal care products. Iveta Kovacova from Ecovia Intelligence will show how waste streams are becoming a source of new cosmetic ingredients, the upcycling trend is leading to the valorization of waste materials from the food and forestry industries. Frederic Niola from Cargill Beauty will discuss the opportunities with sustainable seaweed extracts. Other speakers will cover novel green chemicals and bio-based materials. Marie Sanson and Jasmine Shah of Clariant will give details of a new digital tool that calculates the natural content in skin care and hair care formulations
  • Moving to Circular Systems: Cosmetic brands are investing in circularity as they look to move away from the current system of take-make-waste products. Case studies will be given of operators moving to circular systems. Tiina Isohanni from Lumene will discuss how the Finnish cosmetics brand is changing its formulations and packaging so products are designed for a circular economy. Stephanie van Halder from the Green Salon Collective will show it is helping hair salons move towards circularity. It is encouraging salons to recycle waste materials, as well as reduce and offset their impacts
  • Measuring Environmental Impacts: There is a need to standardize impact measurement and communication in the cosmetics industry. The EcoBeautyScore Consortium is a new initiative that is creating a new industry-wide approach to environmental impact assessment and scoring system for cosmetic products. Clemence Gosset from L’Oreal and Louise Scott from Natura & Co. will explain how the consortium is developing a prototype for environmental impact measurement
  • Nature-Positive Cosmetics: As part of its biodiversity strategy, the L’Occitane Group is creating nature-positive cosmetics. Its Sustainability Director Raphaëlle Archambeaud will give details of the biodiversity strategy. The group has pledged to produce 100% of its raw materials according to regenerative & sustainable agriculture by 2025. It has also set a target of net zero carbon emissions by 2030
  • Waterless Products: There is a growing trend for new cosmetic & personal care products with waterless formulations. Shampoo bars, moisturizers, cleansers, and sheet masks are some of the waterless products coming into the market. Benjamin Grace, Founder of SBTRCT, will give insights into how it has created zero waste and waterless skin care products
  • Sustainable Packaging Materials: Cosmetic and personal care companies are looking to move away from single-use plastic packaging. Andrew Dent from the consultancy Material Connexion will discuss the various material choices for product packaging. He will host a half-day workshop to help cosmetic companies adopt sustainable packaging materials
  • Plastic-Free and Plastic Neutral Products: Lush, one of the pioneers of the ‘plastic-free’ movement, will give detailed insights into its packaging policy. Ruth Andrade, Earth Strategy Lead, will explain how it is developing Naked (packaging-free) products. Lush is opening plastic-free stores in various countries. RePurpose Global will give details of its plastic-neutral certification scheme, showing how brands can measure and offset their plastic footprints
