The multi-functionality of UV products

SpecialChem / Jun 14, 2006

The protection against UV damage is now common knowledge to consumers. For many years now, sun products have been made to offer an efficient screen against UV rays and for specific sun exposure (summer beach, winter ski...) during holidays. Afterwards, daily skin care creams started to include certain UV protection. Today, every cosmetic company has its own specific solar range. These products acquire more and more functions. When you are on the beach, you use a cream with UV B and UVA protection; this is the minimum required protection. Products currently offer further benefits such as the stimulation of the natural skin defence process, instantaneous reparation of skin damage caused by the sun. In their UV products, cosmetic companies are now introducing the same active ingredients as those proposed in their most efficient anti-ageing skin care products. Other UV products add for example a firming effect, or an anti-cellulite action... For the body or the face, these products provide not only a protection against UV rays, but also other benefits.

A few years ago, L'OREAL Paris created a specific solar range named "Solar Expertise". This year, their latest UV skin product from the solar range has a SPF50 and an UVA protection +++; it also has an efficient anti-wrinkle effect obtained by using active ingredients which are already known in their "Dermo Expertise" skin care brand. Boswellia serrata extract, commercially known as "Boswelox", is said to have "an immediate smoothing and tautening action on the skin". The product "Active Anti-Wrinkle & Anti-Brown Spot Sun Cream " is being sold in France and Israel since March 2006.

"Lancôme Absolue Sôleil SPF 30" is a replenishing sun protection body cream that is said to be "nourishing and firming", helping to fight against the appearance of wrinkles. The product contains wild yam extract that is said to "stimulate the synthesis of essential oils which are known to nourish the skin". It also contains litchi extract that is said to "stimulate the production of collagen to help reinforce the skin's fibres".
