Soap and Detergent Association Meets in Florida

SpecialChem / Nancy Jeffries – Feb 28, 2007

Key among the meeting's discussions was the discussion of Fragrance Science and Its Relevance to REACH. Panelists discussed the priorities and expectations of the agreement as it impacts the fragrance industry. Presenters included Jean-Pierre Houri, IFRA (International Fragrance Association) Director General, RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials); Ladd Smith, PhD, President, RIFM; Anne Marie Api, PhD, Vice President, Human Health Services, RIFM; Daniel Salvito, Director, Environmental Sciences, RIFM; and Daniel Isola, Manager, Respiratory Programs, RIFM. Houri said, "Our raison d'etre is to promote the safe enjoyment of fragrance. Fragrances are designed for the enjoyment of life and we want to make sure they are safe." Four axes comprise the RIFM strategy. They are communication, compliance, regulatory issues and science. "There are excessive campaigns leading to consumer mistrust and it is one of our responsibilities to manage the communication with customers as well as the membership of RIFM."
