Skin Aging and Makeup Products

SpecialChem / Nick Morante – Mar 8, 2007

There are two types of skin aging that all cosmetic chemists should know about. The first is controlled mostly by heredity and occurs over time and with age. It is manifested by a loss of collagen and fat which tends to show more lines and wrinkles. These lines and wrinkles are accentuated as we get older. This is called chronological aging and cannot be prevented. The second type is called environmental aging and is very preventable. This type of aging is caused by exposure to sun and elements. It has been well documented that UVA and UVB rays can and do cause harm to the skin. The air and other environmental factors can also have a bearing on the condition of the skin. Free radicals play a major role in the health of the skin and the food we eat also can affect the way our skin looks and feels. I've been bombarded by the editors of numerous beauty magazines stripping me of my knowledge so they can look good and informative in the public's eye. So now it is about time I borrow some of that information from them which can help to understand what the signs of aging are all about and what makeup can do in this area.
