"Nutricosmetics"

SpecialChem / MarieClaude Martini – Jun 8, 2007

Active ingredients at the core of nutricosmetics must all have an action on cutaneous deficiencies or encourage and accelerate a particularly desirable esthetic process: tanning, slimming, anti-aging. It is often said that the skin is the reflection of the state of an individual's arteries. In fact, it can reflect general physiological state and reveal dietary insufficiencies or excesses. This is the reason why a famous company specialized in dietary products is so interested in oral cosmetics and is intensively using a slogan that was hard-hitting in its time "what is good for the inside is seen on the outside". There are many ranges of dietary supplements available in pharmacies, where more than 25 are distributed, in mass market outlets and in perfumeries. Anti-age, anti-aging: vitamins A, D, E, ß-carotene, cereal germ oils, borage oil, blackcurrant seed oil with high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, oils with high levels of omega-3s such as fish oils that are difficult to make acceptable for topical application; green tea polyphenols, complexes of oligoelements (Cu, Mn, Zn) and more recently calcium bio-pearlizers from pearl oysters.
