As skincare in developed markets becoming increasingly high tech and medically focused, a counter trend is occurring: Food!Whether it’s ingestible skin supplements or topically applied food that has become a cosmetic, it’s a powerful trend.A burgeoning assortment of supplements from gummi bears to collagen marshmallows is finding its way to the skincare arena.Yogurt, skin whitening drinks and resveratrol tablets are just a few consumables said to improve skin health.Entire lines are being created based on this premise.Apparently you really are what you eat..... It is relatively common knowledge that skin is the largest organ of the body. It weighs between 6 and 9 lbs (roughly 2.5 - 4 kgs), with a surface area of about 2 square yards (roughly 1.7 square meters).Given what is expected of the skin, you would think we might treat it with a bit more respect. But we don’t seem to....we expose it to the elements: sun, dry air, freezing temperatures, extreme heat, pollution and other stressors.
