Non Cosmetic Industry Offering Novel Technologies

Sometimes the key to new successful product development is searching for ingredients that will provide functionality that does not exist in current cosmetic raw materials. This search usually involves investigating ingredients used in other industries. This is what R&D is all about. It may be painstaking work but the rewards can be great when one finds that magical ingredient long before it makes its way to cosmetics and becomes a new commodity or specialty item. If formulators consistently use what is currently available, there will be even more "me-too" type products on the market. So change is absolutely necessary to create new and novel products. So where are new ingredients going to come from? Where should the cosmetic formulator look first?
