Neem Extracts - Wonders of the 21st Century

Neem products are good mosquito / insects repellents showing 90 to 100% protection against malaria vectors and about 70% against Culex quinquefasciatus. The seed oil has been tested at various concentrations and was found to be active against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhosa, E.coli and Proteus species, Klebsiella pneumoniae. In controlled clinical trials it was found effectieve in bacterial vaginosis and administered intravaginally tit was found to inhibit the growth of Chlamydia trachomatis. Neem extracts show antifungal activity against various strains of fungi including Epidermaphyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum, Trichophyton concentricum, Trichophyton entagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton violaceum. Traditionally, Neem oil has been used by people, especially women in South Asia, to kill /repel head lice, Pediculus capitis belonging to the order Phthiraptera. Infestation with human head lice Pedulus capitis is prevented and controlled by lightly wetting the scalp with a diluted (1:10) perfumed spray containing 1000 ppm Azadirachtin in ethanol .
