Interview with John Replogle, CEO, Burt's Bees

SpecialChem / Imogen Matthews – Sep 4, 2008

Natural beauty brand Burt's Bees' goal to set the standard for natural products was given a huge boost in May 2008 when The Natural Products Association gave its endorsement to the Natural Standard for Personal Care Products and a corresponding Natural Seal. Burt's Bees are the pioneers of the Natural Standard, which strives to give consumers universally recognised and regulated guidelines for all natural personal care products. The company is in the process of lobbying for its Natural Standard to be accepted by the industry with a petition named "Burt's Bill". So far it has achieved strong support from the Natural Product Association, as have Dr. Bronner's and Aubrey Organics, collecting nearly 30,000 signatures from consumers. Burt's Bees claims to be unique in that it lists the percent natural on its packaging and website, enabling customers to know exactly what they are purchasing. Formulations are 100% natural, contain no artificial preservatives or petroleum-based ingredients and the packaging is recyclable, reusable and recycled.
