Formulating sunscreen products is always a challenge and most of time more difficult than formulating skin care products. The reason for this complexity is due to the number of parameters that the formulators have to manage: efficacy of the UV filter, photo stability, solubility, compatibility and regulations are some of these challenges.
With the raising concern about sun damage, consumers are looking more and more for high SPF products with very good UVA protection. However, if they were prepared to compromise a decade ago, weighing up efficacy vs. texture, it is not the case anymore. Modern consumers are looking for convenient sunscreens with not only excellent protection but also nice texture and easy-to-use properties. We have recently seen several launches of multifunctional sunscreens offering more claims than just UV protection, like anti-aging or slimming properties.
