Foam Boosters and Stabilizers

Foam can be considered a function of saturating a liquid with a gas using some pressure or agitation. But you’ll see this action when you agitate a bar of soap under water. The result is foam which is a high volume of bubbles. These bubbles can be large or small, dense or sparse. It all depends on the ingredients in the formula. In cosmetics, the ingredients used to generate foam are usually based on fatty materials because of the high surface activity they offer. Similar ingredients also can be used as foam stabilizers. Foam stability is determined by the amount of time foam will stay before the bubbles start to burst and the foam disappears. Most anionic surfactants have the ability to create foam as in due to their surface activity in water. They are used as detergents because they have the ability to form bubbles and that increased surface area removes dirt and oils via emulsification. They are then rinsed off with the unwanted products being removed with water.Foam can be considered a function of saturating a liquid with a gas using some pressure or agitation.It’s not a very scientific definition especially coming from a color formulator...
