Cosmetic Science meets Forensic Science

SpecialChem / Nick Morante – Jun 5, 2008

This subject has intrigued me for a good number of years. It started when I was Chair of the program Committee for the Long Island Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. This was more than 10 years ago. My responsibilities for that committee were to invite speakers to present relevant topics for the Chapter's monthly scientific meetings. I had heard that Dr. Henry C. Lee, the noted authority in the field of Forensic Science working for the Connecticut State Police Department, had given a lecture on Forensic Science has it pertains to cosmetics to the Connecticut Chapter of the SCC. I knew that Dr. Lee was extremely busy. At the time he was a witness in the famous O.J. Simpson murder trial among many other well-publicized cases. So getting him to speak at our chapter seemed to be a longshot. But much to my surprise, he accepted and I had to plan a meeting where the attendance was probably going to be the highest the chapter had ever experienced.Dr. Lee did eventually speak to our chapter, once before and once after the O.J. Trial.
