Color Trends for 2009

SpecialChem / Nick Morante – Jan 21, 2009

So what were the color trends back in the 1890's - over 100 years ago? That would be an interesting subject to investigate. Some things change and some things don't. That seems to be the same thing when it comes to color. Some things stay the same year after year while others are constantly on the move. The pictures below show just what I mean. And in the world of color cosmetics, color trends can and do change as well. The pearlescence and effect pigment companies (Merck, Eckart & BASF) are usually the first to come out with a color forecast (to help boost sales of their ingredients) but it also helps the marketing people and formulators. These companies should be considered the color professionals. Based on their presentations and what we see on the runways in Paris and Milan, the basic color palette for early 2009 will not exhibit a dramatic shift from the prior color seasons. It will however experience some subtle changes.Eye colors will be very dramatic and will center around shades of purple.
