Certain ingredients in a cosmetic formulation e.g. fragrances, proteins, lipids etc. can undergo auto-oxidation on exposure to air, causing odors and making the formulation unstable. Adding antioxidant helps to maintain the stability of the cosmetic formulation by interrupting the oxidation reactions. In skin care, antioxidants protect the skin cells and slow down the aging process. They also act as radiance promoters and diminish fine lines and spotting caused by exposure to sun and aging. Majority of the antioxidants used in cosmetic formulations be it skin care or hair care are naturally sourced and extracted either from roots, seeds, fruits etc.
