Chitosan. Chitosan marine origin by Kraeber & Co is a film-former, conditioner & moisturizer. It is natural, non-toxic and biodegradable through naturally occurring enzymes. It can form bacterio- & fungi static and deodorizing films & fibers. It provides cross-linking immobilization of living organism, enzymes & pigments, anti-inflammation and wound healing. It acts as a bio-adhesive and possesses bonding ability to proteins, heavy metals and aerosols. It is polycationic grade with high charge density. It shows controlled release of active agents. It is compatible with starch, glucose, saccharose, polyols, oils, waxes and acids (such as acetic, hydrochloric, formic, citric, lactic, succinic, maleic). It is also compatible with non-ionic emulsifiers and non-ionic water-soluble gums. The polymer is incompatible with ionic gums, algin, sulphonated surface-active agents, alkalis with a pH greater than 7.5, and sulphuric acid & its salts. Due to the high molecular weight and the linear unbranched structure of the molecule it is an excellent viscosifier in acid environments. It is recommended for hair care (hairspray, setting lotion, coloring products, shampoo, conditioner), skin care (creams, gels, lotions, masks) and decorative cosmetics (eye shadow, lipstick, nail polish, make-up). It is suitable for cleansing products (cleansing milk, face peel, facial toner, soap), dental care (toothpaste, tooth gel, mouth wash) and deodorizing products (deodorants, foot powder).
