Wool fat

Lanolin. Wool fat by Gustav Heess acts as a humectant. It is a purified, waxy and anhydrous substance obtained from the wool of sheep. It is a mixture of esters from various acids and alcohols. In its molten condition, it is a clear, yellow liquid and its solution in benzine exhibit opalescence. Wool fat forms emulsions with very good shelf-life and can absorb upto 300% water. It is excellent at penetrating the skin but can be a potential irritant and can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive skin. Wool fat finds application in formulating cosmetic products.
