AkzoNobel Launches Multifunctional STRUCTURE® PQ-37 Rheology Modifiers for Personal Care

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -- AkzoNobel Global Personal Care, a worldwide leader in high-performance beauty technologies, announces the launch of STRUCTURE® PQ-37 rheology modifiers. These new versatile and multifunctional conditioning polymers are designed to enhance the aesthetics, sensory attributes and performance benefits of a wide range of hair conditioning, hair styling, sun care and skin care products.

STRUCTURE® PQ-37 rheology modifiers provide substantial thickening, conditioning, actives suspension, emulsification, formulation stabilization and other desirable properties that enable the creation of high-performance, differentiated personal care products. These new additions to our highly successful STRUCTURE® family of rheology modifying polymers include:

  • STRUCTURE® PQ-37M rheology modifier, a cationic acrylic homopolymer dispersed in cosmetic-grade white mineral oil.

  • STRUCTURE® PQ-37P rheology modifier, a cationic acrylic homopolymer dispersed in a mixture of the propylene glycol diesters of caprylic and capric acids.

STRUCTURE® PQ-37 rheology modifiers provide excellent thickening performance even at low use levels. Their shear thinning profile enhances the aesthetic properties of formulations to provide superior sensory and texture attributes. Versatile and easy-to-use, they are ideally suited for the formulation of high-performing rinse-off and leave-on conditioners, creams, lotions, cosmetics, sun care products, after-sun products, hand sanitizers, wipes, styling aids, skin care gels, and after-shave products.

STRUCTURE® PQ-37 rheology modifiers impart exceptional conditioning benefits, such as ease of combing and soft hair feel, in both wet and dry states hair conditioner and treatment formulations. Their inherent film-forming properties bring light hold capabilities and humidity-resistant curl retention to hair styling formulations.

In skin care products, STRUCTURE® PQ-37 rheology modifiers ensure effortless application, excellent rub-in properties and a conditioned after-feel that is richly luxurious with a smooth, non-greasy and non-tacky afterfeel.

STRUCTURE® PQ-37 rheology modifiers come in a ready-to-use liquid that requires no special handling or pre-mixing, and tolerate both cold and hot processing. They can be incorporated at any stage during manufacturing, even post-added to formulations for viscosity adjustment. The cationic nature of these rheology modifiers allows for excellent compatibility with a wide range of ingredients, including nonionics, cationics, oils, silicones, and other polymers across a broad pH range.
