International Fragrance Association (IFRA) announces the official opening of the new India liaison office heralds a significant era of development for the important Indian fragrance sector.
It will enable IFRA to better support the Indian fragrance industry to build capacity, reach ever higher standards of quality, safety, and sustainability, and improve global marketability.
With its liaison office in India, IFRA seeks to develop a local understanding of the international best practice and to advocate for relevant fragrance legislation in India. This includes the sectors of cosmetics and chemicals and the new biodiversity act.
India - Source of Vital Raw Materials
“I am delighted to officially launch the IFRA India liaison office”, said Martina Bianchini, president of IFRA. “
India has a long and storied history in scents, perfumes, and fragrances. It is the source of many vital raw materials that are essential along the entire fragrance value chain”.
IFRA has built a successful dialogue with Indian stakeholders in recent years and has held several events since 2017. This interaction motivated the creation of the IFRA India liaison office, which began initial operations during the pandemic and has worked virtually for the past two years. The association welcomes the chance to celebrate the official inauguration with an in-person event.

The opening of the IFRA India liaison office coincides with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) 1st Fragrance Business Summit called ‘Building Sustainable Fragrance Supply Chain’, 21 September 2022 in New Delhi. An IFRA delegation to India will be undertaking a three-day fact-finding tour, meeting stakeholders and visiting key fragrance ingredients production areas.
“IFRA is here to learn about the needs of the stakeholders in the Indian market and to support their capacity building activities”, said Bhuvana Nageshwaran of Ultra International, part of the IFRA delegation. “
India is major supplier of high quality, natural fragrance ingredients, and IFRA’s know-how and expertise will enhance India’s ability to compete internationally”.
