Published on 2020-05-12. Edited By : SpecialChem

Evonik_TBA_Cosmetic_AlcoholsEvonik has announced that tertiary butanol (TBA) has now been proven to be used as a denaturant in cosmetic alcohols. Up to now, tertiary butanol has been used mainly as a precursor in organic peroxides and antioxidants.

Result of Search for Alternative Raw Materials

The discovery was a result of the search for alternative raw materials to produce disinfectants in response to rising demand due to COVID-19 pandemic. TBA may be useful in the manufacture of cosmetic products or odor enhancers.

"We are pleased that with TBA we can provide our customers with a quality product - and in combination with individual logistics options," explained Sarah Kranz, marketing manager at Performance Intermediates and Product Manager for TBA.

The product TBA can be delivered in tank containers, tank trucks and drums. The company can supply the customers with two different TBA grades, produced simultaneously and fully continuously, according to the needs: anhydrous and azeotropic.
