PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is made by reacting synthetic polyethylene glycol with the natural hydrogenated castor oil. It is made in the labs by the means of ethoxylation, which means that 40 molecules of ethylene glycol are added to castor oil.

Safety profile

PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is safe for use on skin and hair. There have been some concerns regarding the presence of 1,4-dioxane (which is a carcinogen) as the making of PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil undergoes ethoxylation. However, since 1,4-dioxane is purified out of the final ingredient, it is not something to worry about. Further, it is non-comedogenic and does not cause acne. It is also halal and vegan.
