ISOHEXADECANE
Isohexadecane is a pretty high-functioning ingredient in the cosmetic industry. It is odorless and colorless in nature, while also resulting in a very light after-feel. Isohexadecane is generally known for its cleansing abilities. It is also a great solvent and improves the texture of the formulations that it is used in. It produces a very rich and creamy texture that is lightweight and non-greasy. Furthermore, It is not silicone and neither is it water soluble. The chemical formula of Isohexadecane is C16H34.

What is ISOHEXADECANE used for?

Isohexadecane serves many functions and is thus used liberally in the cosmetic industry. This ingredient is put in a wide range of products such as lipsticks, deodorants, and foundations.
  • Skin care: It keeps the outer layer of the skin moisturized for long durations, while also improving the way it looks and feels. This ingredient also deep cleanses dirt and forms a protective barrier on the skin
  • Hair care: It leaves the shafts intensely hydrated and moisturized without weighing them down. Its rich and creamy texture allows the product to be spread easily. Even though essentially an oil, it does not make the hair greasy
  • Cosmetic products: It works to enhance the texture of the formulations. It helps the makeup last longer while keeping the surface of the skin moisturized. It is also a great solvent that is much needed in products like makeup removers

Origin

Isohexadecane is made out of petroleum and is a branched chain of hydrocarbons consisting of sixteen carbons. This synthetic ingredient is also referred to as iso-paraffin which simply means that it is a mineral oil that is derived from petroleum.

Safety profile

Isohexadecane is safe for skin and hair. The molecules of this ingredient are big enough to avoid penetration into the skin and scalp.
