HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN
The hydrolysate of soy protein produced by an acid, enzyme, or other method of hydrolysis is known as hydrolyzed soy protein or hydrolyzed soybean protein. Proteins, peptides, and amino acids make up the majority of its structure. It primarily functions as hair conditioning agent and skin conditioning agent in cosmetics. It is the most used hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) in the market. It is a clear to slightly hazy, yellow or light tan to amber-colored liquid.

What is HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN used for?

The most frequently mentioned use in cosmetic products, out of all the soy proteins, is hydrolyzed soy protein. Up to 1.5% of it is present in detergents and bath soaps. Soy ingredients in cosmetics have been shown in research appearing in the February 2015 issue of Acta Poloniae Pharmaceutica to stimulate collagen, offer anti-inflammatory benefits, and even offer UV protection. Additionally, soy derivatives are used in exfoliating face washes that use soy microbeads rather than plastic microbeads because they are more environmentally friendly. Hydrolyzed soy protein for hair care - It works as an antistatic and a hair conditioning agent in hair care products.

Origin

Using an acid and an enzyme, hydrolysates can be produced. With the addition of 1 mol/L HCl, the glycine soja (soybean)protein dispersion (4% w/v) is brought to pH 2.0 before being incubated at 37°C for 30 min. The enzymatic hydrolysis reaction is then initiated by adding an enzyme (such as pepsin) to each component at a 0.3% (w/w) enzyme to substrate ratio. The enzyme is inactivated by bringing the pH to 7.0 with 2 mol/L NaOH, and each fraction is then incubated at 37°C for 10 to 900 minutes. According to a supplier, isolated soy proteins are hydrolyzed with a protease enzyme for two hours to produce hydrolyzed soy protein.

What does HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN do in a formulation?

  • Antistatic
  • Hair conditioning
  • Skin conditioning

Safety profile

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel (Panel) reviewed relevant data related to hydrolyzed soy protein and concluded that soy proteins and peptides are safe in cosmetics in the present practices of use and concentration. The Panel utilized data received from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and the cosmetics industry. The soy peptide ingredients in this report are not restricted from use in any way under the rules governing cosmetic products in the European Union.
