Hydrogenated polydecene is an alkene that acts as an emollient and may have different viscosities from silky-light to satiny-smooth or rich and luxurious. It is a colorless, watery liquid with a pleasant odor. It is naturally found in some plants like Tussilago farfara. Its chemical formula is C10H20.

What is HYDROGENATED POLYDECENE used for?

Hydrogenated polydecene acts as an emollient, skin and hair conditioning agent, masking agent, and solvent.
  • Skin care: It is an emollient and works as a skin-softening agent. It forms a non-occlusive film on the skin’s surface and provides gloss without making the formulation greasy. It has excellent wetting capability, is ideal for sun care and makeup applications and its pure and hypoallergenic property makes it useful for baby products
  • Hair care: It makes hair soft, supple, shiny, and easy to comb, providing volume and lightness to them. It acts as a solvent for dissolving substances and also as a fragrant agent in perfumes

Origin

It is prepared by the hydrogenation of mixtures of tri-, tetra- penta-, and hexa-1-decenes.
