This versatile ingredient improves the feel of both the product and the surface on which it is applied. The chemical formula of Hydrogenated Lecithin is C42H84NO8P.

What is HYDROGENATED LECITHIN used for?

Hydrogenated Lecithin is quite a versatile ingredient that can be found in many personal care and cosmetic products like serums, moisturizers, concealers, and foundations.
  • Skin care: In skin care products, Hydrogenated Lecithin fulfills its primary role which is moisturization and skin conditioning. It forms a barrier on the surface that locks in moisture and results in a silky, smooth finish. Hydrogenated Lecithin also improves the absorption of the ingredients in a product
  • Cosmetic products: It stabilizes cosmetic formulations and prevents early degradation of the product. It also helps blend oil and water-based ingredients without allowing them to separate

Origin

Hydrogenated Lecithin is derived from regular lecithin which is found in many animal and plant tissues. To achieve this, a process known as hydrogenation is performed which converts unsaturated fatty acids into saturated fatty acids, making the ingredient more stable. Hydrogenated Lecithin is yellowish-brown or off-white in color and can be waxy or powdery in nature.

What does HYDROGENATED LECITHIN do in a formulation?

  • Emulsifying
