What is HYDRATED SILICA used for?

Hydrated Silica is a very versatile ingredient and has many benefits to provide in the cosmetic and personal care industry. It is primarily found in toothpaste where it removes plaque and protects the teeth from damage.

Skin care: It works as an exfoliator and cleansing agent that removes dead skin cells and leaves the surface of the skin smoother and healthier. It is also used to enhance the spreadability and texture of the products
Cosmetic products: It is used in powders and foundations to help absorb excess oil and give a matte finish to the skin. In products like deodorants, it can be used to absorb moisture and control body odor
Hair care: It may be used in shampoos and conditioners to improve the texture of the products and to add volume and thickness to the shafts

Origin

Hydrated Silica is a mineral-based compound that is made by the reaction of silicon dioxide and water under high pressure and temperature. It appears as a fine powder that is white in color and odorless. Hydrated Silica is not silicone even though it is derived from silicon because during manufacturing the chemical properties of this ingredient change.
