ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE
Ethylhexyl palmitate is a fatty acid ester that is used as an emollient in cosmetic formulations. It is a clear, colorless, liquid at room temperature bearing a faintly fatty smell. It imparts a richness to a formula and can be a replacement for mineral oil.

What is ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE used for?

In addition to being used as an emollient in cosmetics, it is also used as a solvent, carrying agent, pigment-wetting agent, and fragrance fixative.
  • Skin care: It softens and smoothens the skin. It reduces moisture loss from the upper layers and improves the look of the skin. As a solvent, it helps solubilize other ingredients, helping active ingredients more readily penetrate into the skin. It helps active ingredients such as avobenzone and ethylhexyl triazone, commonly found in sunscreen, disperse and remain evenly suspended in a formula
  • Hair care: It works as a medium-spreading emollient and gives the hair a silky appearance

Origin

Ethylhexyl palmitate is obtained from the reaction of palmitic acid, a very common fatty acid, with 2-ethyl hexanol, in the presence of an acid catalyst.

What does ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE do in a formulation?

  • Emollient
  • Perfuming
  • Solvent
