DIISOSTEARYL MALATE
Diisostearyl malate is an emollient which works to condition the skin in cosmetics and personal care products. It also has surfactant properties. It is an odorless and tasteless ester which provides sheen and gloss to the cosmetic formulation. It is thus a favorite addition to cosmetics like lipsticks, lip gloss, but may also be found in other make-up and beauty products like eye shadow, hair dye, blush and sunscreen.

What is DIISOSTEARYL MALATE used for?

Diisostearyl malate benefits stem from the fact that it works to condition the skin.
  • Skin care: The alkyl chain length of this ester is C18, making it hydrophobic in nature, by virtue of which it can penetrate the skin better. It creates a thin layer over the skin’s surface and prevents loss of moisture. It provides a non-tacky feeling and is compatible with other hydrophobic solvents and oils
  • Decorative Cosmetics: It has medium viscosity which makes it ideal for dispersing pigments. It is a good binder for pigmented products and works as an exceptional additive for providing sheen and gloss in makeup products like lipsticks and lip gloss

Origin

Diisostearyl malate is obtained by treating malic acid with isostearyl alcohol. Malic acid is naturally available from unripe fruits.
