What is CYCLOMETHICONE used for?

Cyclomethicone has a great number of uses and benefits for the skin and hair. It is therefore used in a wide range of products when it comes to the cosmetic and skin/hair care industry.

Skin care: It gives a smooth and silky touch to the skin. It is used in a variety of cosmetic products as it creates a barrier between the skin and the environment and thus protects it from the harmful external factors. It locks the moisture on the skin surface and prevents water loss. Thus, it is beneficial for dry and flaky skin. Moreover, it has also been known to improve the appearance of scars.

Origin

Cyclomethicone is made by the hydrolysis of dichloride. This process produces a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane and cyclic dimethyl siloxanes. This on further distillation produces a polymer mixture of Cyclomethicone.
