CI 75810
CI 75810 or Chlorophyllin, is a copper derivative of a botanically derived color obtained from green plants. This nature-based dye imparts a clear water-based solution. It is suggested for use in make-up, skincare, sun care and toiletries products. Chlorophyllin is another name for a group of closely related water-soluble salts that are semi-synthetic derivatives of chlorophyll that differ in the identity of the cations associated with the anion. Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex is made from chlorophyll.

What is CI 75810 used for?

CI 75810 works as a cosmetic colorant in personal care products. It is used in the formulation of bath products, cleansing products, dentifrices, deodorants, hair conditioners, shampoos, skin care products and other hair products.

It reduces or eliminates unpleasant odors and protects against the formation of such odors on the skin. Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex also imparts a green color to dentifrice products.

Origin

Chlorophyllin is a group of closely related water-soluble sodium copper salt, which are semi-synthetic products of chlorophyll. Plants such as nettle, spinach and typical grass are some of the raw materials used in the extraction of chlorophyllin. The extracts from the plants are stabilized, causing the displacement of magnesium from the molecule core, and substituting it with copper. This forms a water-soluble colorant known as sodium copper chlorophyllin or CI 75810 chlorophyllin copper complex.

What does CI 75810 do in a formulation?

  • Cosmetic colorant
  • Deodorant

Safety profile

CI 75810 is generally classified as non-toxic by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). As a color, Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex may be safely used for coloring dentifrices when it conforms to FDA specifications. FDA has also permitted the use of Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex in Over-the-Counter (OTC) internal deodorant drug products.
