Today, the trend of using green, sustainable, natural ingredients and additives is increasing in the market for cosmetics and body care products. The reason for this trend is the perceived negative effects synthetic materials have on health and the environment. The increase in consumer awareness with respect to the environment, health, safety and knowledge of risks associated with synthetic chemicals, increases interest in natural cosmetics. Natural cosmetics should have a positive impact on the environment, biodiversity and health due to the reduction of pollutants versus the synthetic based products. They are developed from natural ingredients and free of chemicals, coloring additives and other synthetic mixtures.

The market for natural polymer ingredients is constantly growing due to a wide range of applications in development of cosmetic products. The cosmetics industry invests significantly in development of natural ingredients and functional additives, especially in bio-based specialty polymers. A wide range of bio-based specialty polymers employed in various cosmetic products perform as surfactants, emulsifiers, emollients, and rheology modifiers.
