An interview with Dr. Àngel Martínez, Chief Market Officer of Industrial Química Lasem (IQL)

Founded in 1947 in Barcelona (Spain), IQL manufactures in Europe esters and specialties under Japanese standards.

IQL is part of The Nisshin OilliO Group headquartered in Japan. Our operating systems are quality-driven and aimed at achieving efficiency and fulfilling the highest expectations.

IQL provides a wide range of multifunctional emollients, thickeners, and emulsifiers based on high grade raw materials optimized for cosmetic applications.

We strive in improving day by day with our customers developing products and cooperating in projects for satisfying the new market trends.

Its added value products are contributing to improve environmental aspects by means of alternative products to those non-renewable ones in cosmetics applications.

IQL wants to transform the skin care, makeup, and hair care routine with natural derived high quality and high performance ingredients. #5. Can you further detail your contribution to the cosmetic industry?


We all want to go natural however there are some significant challenges for formulating natural. Marketers want consumers to believe that natural products are safer. They also want people to believe that natural products work better. Unfortunately, this is not always the reality.

Natural Cosmetics Natural derived esters, or derived from petrochemicals, are less likely to have contaminants than natural ingredients, such as oils. The shelf life of natural ingredients can also be an issue; furthermore, a natural non-synthetic formulation does not always contain the best functional ingredients. Also keep in mind that the consistency and composition of a natural ingredient can fluctuate from crop to crop, so a product that worked one way one year may not work the same way the next.

You can say that this is what naturalness implies and you are right, but consumers want products that work. They may say they want natural and environmentally friendly products, but they also want products that are effective and easy to use.

Making high performance natural derived esters can help to overcome these challenges improving the performance of natural based formulations. Getting the balance of natural and natural derived products it’s the key to keep or increase the quality and performance of the final products.
