in-cosmetics 2013 Marketing Trends Insights

SpecialChem / Imogen Matthews – May 27, 2013

The trends presentations program at in-cosmetics 2013 covered global beauty trends from research companies, such as Euromonitor and Datamonitor. The premium sector is driving growth within the global beauty market, according to Euromonitor, with nail polish registering the fastest growth at 13% year on year. Multifunctional products, such as BB and CC creams have been a huge success which is spreading into new sectors, including lip gloss and haircare. Beauty trends from South East Asia include spray mists which can be applied over make-up, and all-in-one gels that fulfil multiple functions. Fragrance in cosmetics should not be underestimated as it impacts on the emotions and on consumer behavior. Consumers often choose products for their fragrance, rather than functional benefits. In 2020, the beauty industry can expect suncare products that work with the sun, not against it. Cosmetic companies will look to aesthetic medicine and skin cancer drugs for new anti-ageing solutions.
