Hydroxystearic acid. It acts as an emollient. It is high melting, brittle, waxy solid at room temperature and should be stored away from heat to avoid deterioration. It is structurally similar to stearic acid and both are obtained from naturally-occurring fats and oils. It cleans skin and hair by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so that they can be rinsed away. Its applications are in skin care, hair care and underarm deodorants formulations.
