Univar at MakeUp in Paris: Presents Textures for Skin and Make-up Applications

ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands -- Univar announced that it is showcasing a range of innovative textures at MakeUp in Paris. The formulations are based around the theme "Sweety Pop-Up" and are demonstrated in partnership with Dow Corning on Univar's stand 301E at the show.

"This is our first time exhibiting at MakeUp in Paris and we are looking forward to creating a buzz with our candy-inspired selection of textures," said Philippe Villequey, Industry Director, Univar Personal Care, EMEA. "Textures have always been a strong focus for Univar Personal Care and our ambition is ‘mastering the art of textures'; it is a very important area of formulation that has a big impact on end consumers' enjoyment of a product and where constant innovation is essential."

Innovations on display include External Exotic Tattoo, an extremely long-lasting, tattoo effect eye shadow that might remind visitors of the way some sweets or chewing gums color your tongue. The product uses Dow Corning® MQ -1640 Flake Resin, a unique blend of MQ&T Propyl silicone resins, that provides a durable and flexible film on the skin, with outstanding wash-off and transfer resistance.

Also at the stand is Dow Corning® EL-7040 Hydro Elastomer Blend which references refreshing candies with a tender texture. It boasts enhanced formulation compatibility with organic ingredients compared to traditional silicone elastomers, but is also able to incorporate high levels of water and glycerin while retaining a gel structure and elastomer feel.M

Univar is also showcasing two Pink Wizard formulations that match the concept of silky sweets. One of these is silicone-based and complies with the China Cosmetic Regulation requirements, an important issue for the French market where many manufacturers export cosmetics to China. Pink Wizard is a silky anhydrous colored wax which melts on skin during application and uses Dow Corning® 2503 Cosmetic Wax.

Another highlight from the range of textures that is on show is Colored Trampoline, a ludic BB jelly-cream (oil-in-water emulsion) which has a bouncy marshmallow-like effect when handled, due to the use of Aculyn™ 28. When applied to the skin, the addition of Dow Corning® EL-9240 Silicone Elastomer Blend provides a luxurious feel. This silicone, together with the silicone emulsifier, both comply with Beauty Care regulations in China.

Dow Corning is also delivering a lecture on silicone solutions for facial, lip and eye makeup applications. Marilena Moré, Application Engineering Technical Service for Beauty care Solutions, Dow Corning, will be looking at the way these can increase color intensity and improve transfer resistance and wear while enabling exciting sensory benefits and novel textures to be achieved.
