This year, the Personal Care Product Line of Evonik will be presenting innovative solutions for the hair care and skin care segments in both podium discussions and poster sessions at the IFSCC Congress in Buenos Aires.
Evonik researchers characterized different types of hair damages and developed strategies to prevent and repair the cortex, as well as the cuticula, of the hair. Using active ingredients in hair care formulations will help to repair damaged hair and protect the hair against future damage. Causes of hair damage are perming, bleaching, relaxing, coloring or straightening of the hair using a flat iron. The impact of different treatments on functionality and performance of the hair will be addressed. Additionally, strategies for repair and protection by different actives will be explored.
As part of the IFSCC Scientific Poster Sessions, a poster entitled "Inhibition of Melanogenesis and reduction of inflammation by topical application of a cathledicin-derived tetrapeptide" will be presented. Personal presentation and discussion will be at 3:45 p.m. on September 23. The peptides sequence is derived from a skin protein. This bio-mimetic peptide has anti-inflammatory activity, inhibits melanocyte activation and thereby reduces the amount of Tyrosinase. In cosmetic applications, it lightens the skin, reduces hyperchromatic spots and improves the evenness of the skin tone.

New ingredients serving the wellness and sustainability trends
At booth no. 70/71, Evonik will also feature its latest ingredients for sustainable formulations:
TEGO® Care PSC 3 (INCI: Polyglyceryl-3 Stearate/Citrate (proposed)), is a PEG-free, purely vegetable-based emulsifier that provides mildness, high performance and versatility, and makes it possible to achieve an excellent cost-performance ratio in oil-in-water creams and lotions. Forming stable emulsions over a wide pH range, TEGO® Care PSC 3 allows formulators to use organic acids as preservatives. It is based 100 percent on natural raw materials: glycerine, stearic acid, and citric acid. It eliminates the need to incorporate polyacrylate thickeners as stabilizers.
TEGOSOFT® OER (INCI: Oleyl Erucate), is a 100% vegetable-based, enzymatically-produced ester similar in structure and properties to natural jojoba oil. Owing to its enzymatic production process, the emollient has fewer by-products and features a consistently higher purity than other comparable products on the market. The product is easy to formulate and can be incorporated into both oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) systems, and it is suitable for color-sensitive cosmetic formulations.
Innovative actives for beautiful skin
HyaCare® Filler CL (INCI: Aqua; Ethylhexyl Stearate; Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer; Polyglyceryl-4 Diisostearate/Polyhydroxystearate/Sebacate; Sodium Isostearate (proposed)) is a topical wrinkle smoother and contributes instantly to the reduction of facial fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it has positive effects on increasing the elasticity of the skin. Because of its high water-binding capacity and strong short-term moisturization properties, HyaCare® Filler CL also effectively supports the hydration of the skin.
TEGO® Xymenynic (INCI: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride; Xymenynic Acid (proposed)), a highly purified phytochemical compound that perceivably improves skin texture, provides visibly firmer-looking, resilient skin, minimizes body imperfections caused by cellulite, and significantly diminishes the appearance of "orange peel" skin.
TEGO® Pep 4-17 (INCI: Tetrapeptide-21; Glycerin; Butylene Glycol; Aqua), a bio-active and pure tetrapeptide which is able to boost the most important components of the ECM - an important factor for anti-aging products. Furthermore, TEGO® Pep 4-17 is improving all kinds of periorbital wrinkles and smoothes the skin.
TEGO® Carbomer for hair and skin care products:
The new product is an excellent rheology modifier, viscosity builder and emulsion stabilizer. The manufacturing process of TEGO® Carbomer 140 G (INCI: Carbomer) involves n-heptane and ethyl acetate, which are class 3 solvents according to Pharmacopoe Européenne and to USP. It is especially suitable for cosmetic or pharmaceutical emulsions and gels.
