Dow has announced an exclusive engagement with Locus Performance Ingredients (Locus PI) to sell its line of high-performance sophorolipid biosurfactants in the global home care and personal markets.
Addressing Growing Consumer Demand
Locus PI ingredients offer a substantial reduction in carbon footprint relative to conventional surfactants. This engagement will enable Dow to strengthen its position in the biosurfactants market, addressing growing consumer demand for sustainable, bio-based, and biodegradable ingredients.

Partnership to Develop Tailored Ingredients
The Dow and Locus PI engagement allows both companies to leverage their key expertise. It combines Locus PI’s fermentation technology know-how and ability to develop tailored ingredients with Dow’s deep knowledge and penetration in the home care and personal care markets.
Locus PI offers a broad portfolio of 100 percent bio-based, high-purity sophorolipids, an ingredient in the glycolipid class of biosurfactants. These biosurfactants exhibit superior performance in foam stability and surface tension reduction.
