Origin
Quinoline Yellow is typically manufactured by condensation of quinaldine (2-methylquinoline) with phthalic anhydride by fusion at ca. 220°C in the presence of zinc chloride, and sulfonation of the product with oleum at around 90°C. Sulfonation occurs in the quinoline ring and the disulfonated product predominates.
